THIS IS SAUCE WARS.

IT STARTED AS A FRIENDLY COMPETITION ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO… BUT BECAUSE IT GOT SO POPULAR… ORGANIZERS WANTED TO USE IT AS A PLATFORM TO HELP A CHARITY.

SO- THEY DECIDED TO SUPPORT BACKPACK BUDDIES.

IT'S A PROGRAM RUN BY SAINT JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH… THAT HELPS KEEP 110 LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS FED ON THE WEEKENDS AND DURING SCHOOL BREAKS--- WHICH ADDS UP TO 45-HUNDRED MEALS A YEAR.

THIS YEAR- THEIR GOAL IS TO RAISE 10 TO 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE CHARITY.

IF YOU'D LIKE TO HELP OUT-- AND JUDGE SOME GREAT SAUCES...

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS COME TO THE PUB WITH A FINANCIAL OR NON-PERISHABLE FOOD DONATION.

{*ALISON ASHLEY/SAUCE WARS*}

“Sauces are served by our volunteers. You’ll have a plate that has the numbers one, two or three. It’s a blind test. You’ll be given a marble and you go drop your marble into the bottle that you think has the best sauce.”

WHILE RAISING MONEY FOR HUNGRY KIDS IS SOMETHING ALL THESE COMPETITORS CAN GET BEHIND… IT’S A SPECIAL MISSION FOR STIDHAM.

{*MARK STIDHAM/CULINARY STUDENT*}

“We grew up in rural Missouri: farm country. We were poor. There were a lot of times we did depend on government commodities, like the government cheese and peanut butter and summer food programs while we were in school. So the competition is wonderful and I hope we win, but more importantly, I just want to make everything such a success for backpack buddies.”
